What To Expect

New patients are required to fill out a consent form. This can be done on-line via a New Patient appointment confirmation email, which includes a link to the on-line form. Where there is no email a form can be completed at the rooms. In this instance, please bring a list of prescribed medication, x ray results and results of any other diagnostic tests. After discussion with you to understand your foot problems and history, an examination will commence.

  1. General Podiatry Treatment and/or Diabetic Foot Check - Feet are cleaned with an antiseptic preparation. The skin and nails are inspected, the appropriate treatment explained to the patient and upon agreement treatment commences. Treatment usually involves cutting and filing of the toenails, removal of any callus /corns, sanding the skin, moisturising foot cream applied, treatment/management plan discussed. For a diabetic foot check it involves a foot management plan and education to reduce diabetic foot complications and can be done as part of a general podiatry treatment. This examination is usually 30 minutes.
  2. Biomechanical Initial Examination - This is usually undertaken if patients are suffering from foot, heel, ankle, lower limb, knee pain, flat feet, or other alignment issues. During this exam it is useful if patients wear shorts or loose trousers that can be rolled up to the knee. Please also bring the shoes you normally wear throughout the week, shoes for exercise and an old worn pair of shoes. Karyn may take some measurements, observe you as you walk and study how your joints move. She will then explain the results of the examination and discuss an appropriate treatment and management plan. This examination is usually 45 minutes.
  3. Biomechanical Follow up - assesses your progress and ongoing treatment needs following your initial biomechanical appointment. A diabetic foot check involves a foot management plan and education to reduce diabetic foot complications and can be done as part of a general podiatry treatment. This examination is usually 30 minutes.
